This image was taken under very dark skies in Rodeo, New Mexico, at Bunker Ranch Observatory.

Object Data

The Flaming Star Nebula can be found in the constellation Auriga. The bright star in the middle of the image is AE Auriga, which shines at magnitude 6.0. It is thought that this bright star originated in the region near Orion’s belt. The Flaming Star Nebula is approximately 1500 light years from earth, and measures about five light years across.
